Credit Card Tradelines
Credit card tradelines are aged, seasoned credit card accounts that post to your credit file when the issuing bank reports the account to Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. You're added as an authorized user (AU), so the card's age, limit, and on-time payment history report under your Social Security number — without you ever holding or using the card. The result is often a FICO and VantageScore lift within a single reporting cycle.
How authorized user tradelines work
The Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) and Regulation B require scoring models to include authorized user accounts. When a cardholder adds you as an AU, the bank reports the full account history under your Social Security number. The three bureaus blend that data into your file — and your score reflects the added age, limit, and utilization almost immediately after the statement cuts.
Three factors on the card decide how much your score moves:
- Age. An older account raises your average age of accounts. A 23-year Target card moves that average far more than a 1-year store card.
- Limit. A high limit with a near-zero balance drops your overall utilization, the single fastest-moving scoring factor.
- Utilization. Cards under 1% util help most. Anything above roughly 30% can dilute the benefit, which is why each listing shows its utilization openly.

Which card should you pick?
Match the card to the weakness in your file rather than buying the biggest limit available.
- Thin file, few accounts. Prioritize age. A card in the 8–23 year range adds history you cannot create any other way.
- High utilization. Prioritize limit. Adding a $15,000–$24,000 card with near-zero utilization can drop your overall ratio by double digits in one cycle.
- Tight budget. Store cards from $250 PIF still add age and an on-time payment record; stack two smaller cards instead of one premium line.
- Financing deadline. Work backwards from the reporting date and the add-by cutoff shown on each card.
Timing: reporting dates and add-by cutoffs
Every card reports on a fixed day of the month, and several must be enrolled before a cutoff date to make that cycle — for example, Chase Slate #2 reports on the 2nd but must be added by the 20th prior, and the Capital One Venture reports on the 28th with an 18th cutoff. Miss the cutoff and your tradeline waits a full month before it posts. If you have a mortgage or auto application coming, buy at least 30 days out.
What credit card tradelines cost
Pricing tracks the card's limit and age, not the issuer's brand name. On our marketplace, entry-level store cards start near $250 pay-in-full, mid-tier cards with $5,000–$12,000 limits land in the $600–$900 range, and premium travel cards with $18,000–$30,000 limits run $950–$1,500. Nearly every card can also be split into three monthly payments so the cost lines up with the three reporting cycles you receive.
Primary vs authorized user tradelines
A primary tradeline is an account you opened yourself — your name, your liability, your responsibility. Primary tradelines can't be legally bought or sold. An authorized user tradeline adds you to an existing seasoned account so its history reports to your credit. AU tradelines are federally recognized under ECOA and are the only tradeline product that can be legitimately purchased.

What to expect after purchase
After KYC verification, we schedule your AU add for the upcoming reporting cycle. Most cards report within 30 days. Score lift depends on your current profile — thin files typically see 20–100 point jumps per tradeline; established files see smaller but still meaningful lifts. Cards stay on your report for 4 months / 3 full reporting cycles.
Credit card tradeline questions
- What are authorized user tradelines?
- Authorized user tradelines are seasoned credit card accounts you are added to as an authorized user. The card's age, credit limit, utilization, and perfect payment history report under your Social Security number to Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion — without you ever holding or using the card.
- Are authorized user tradelines legal?
- Yes. The Equal Credit Opportunity Act and Regulation B require scoring models to consider authorized user accounts, and no federal statute prohibits a cardholder from adding an authorized user for a fee. Tradeline Exchange accounts are all owned by Legal X Global LLC and every buyer completes AML/KYC verification.
- How much do authorized user tradelines cost?
- On Tradeline Exchange, entry-level store cards start around $250 pay-in-full, mid-tier cards with $5,000–$12,000 limits run $600–$900, and premium travel cards with $18,000–$30,000 limits reach $950–$1,500. Most cards can also be paid monthly across 3 months.
- Where can I buy authorized user tradelines?
- You can buy directly from the Tradeline Exchange marketplace. Every listed card is owned and controlled by Legal X Global LLC rather than an outside cardholder, so reporting dates, utilization, and the removal schedule are all under one company's control.
- Do authorized user tradelines still work in 2026?
- Yes. Authorized user accounts still report to all three bureaus in 2026, and FICO and VantageScore models still factor them in. The size of the lift depends on your existing file — thin or damaged files gain the most.
- Do lenders ignore authorized user tradelines in underwriting?
- Automated underwriting scores your file as-is, including authorized user accounts. Some manual underwriters ask about AU accounts on mortgage files, so use tradelines to strengthen your overall profile — age, limits, and utilization — rather than as a substitute for your own credit history.
- How long do authorized user tradelines stay on my report?
- Tradeline Exchange cards stay on your file for 4 months / 3 full reporting cycles from the first report date. After the slot ends, the account typically remains visible on your report as closed history.
